Indianapolis Lawn Care Business Specialist

TLC, Total Lawn Care, Inc. was established in 1989 by Terry Jungels and Mark Cavin. Each partner brought valuable experience into the business; Mark spent several years in the industry, developing a reputation as an outstanding Lawn Care Specialist. He is recognized not only for his knowledge and work on lawns, but in the area of customer relations as well. Terry spent several years in the Golf Course industry. He attended Purdue University, acquiring a BS in Management and a MS in Agronomy, specializing in Soil Fertility and Soil Chemistry. Both partners saw the need for a service-oriented lawn care business that put the agronomics of the lawn and the concerns of the customers first. We feel that offering “TLC” to the homeowner is something that was missing in the industry. TLC is committed to providing quality service and we anticipate that through our commitment, the business will continue to grow, establishing long-term relationships with our customers.

We utilize superior quality products, the latest research from universities and agricultural companies, and our experience to achieve this goal. Our Lawn Care Specialists continually upgrade their skills and training throughout their career with TLC. We have designated territories for our Specialists so they can become familiar with the lawns they maintain and establish a good rapport with their customers. This also provides the opportunity to spend the quality time on each lawn that is necessary to meet our homeowners' expectations. We offer 5 fertilization applications throughout the year that are typically about 8 weeks apart. Through our use of high quality products we can achieve the desired results in only 5 applications; whereas other companies may charge for 6, 7 or even more applications of an inferior product.

We are a locally owned business and we base our decisions on the needs that are specific to Central Indiana. Our weather changes from season to season and year to year. We take this into consideration and can adapt our application products accordingly. Different areas of the city have distinct soils and varying degrees of lawn establishment and we can target these differences. We believe that cultural practices by the homeowner are an important ingredient to having a healthy, thick lawn. Throughout the year we provide advice on watering and mowing. We also offer aerations to help relieve compaction and allow for proper development of the root system.

The grasses we offer here (Kentucky Bluegrasses, Ryegrasses and Fescues) are Cool-Season Grasses. These grasses do great in the spring and fall and will want to go dormant during the hot, humid summers. Proper mowing and watering during these times will help reduce disease and weed pressure. A healthy thick lawn is the best form of weed control. Developing a healthy lawn allows us to practice IPM, Integrated Pest Management. This practice allows us to reduce the amounts of pesticides applied to your lawn. It is common for us to go over the lawn twice, once with our fertilizer and the second time with a targeted weed or insect control.

We often use micronutrient packages with our fertilizers. With the high amount of clay in our soils, we typically have a high pH level that ties up essential elements such as Iron and Manganese. These nutrients help develop a more green and healthy lawn. In the summer we apply a sulfur-coated fertilizer which is activated by moisture. If we enter into a prolonged timeframe without rain or irrigation, this product will be available to help the turf recover when moisture is received. We apply our fertilizers in the fall to help the lawn replenish itself from its growth through the summer and restore carbohydrates to the root system. A balanced fertility program throughout the season helps reduce disease and stress, resulting in a much healthier lawn that will stand out from the rest.
